prevention
In general, if he is not a smoker, he will not have Buerger’s disease. Therefore, one of the missions of the Association for the Support of Buerger Patients is to help smokers quit smoking. In this regard, smoking cessation meetings and meetings of the Nicotine Anonymous Association are held at the Buerger Patient Association
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of Buerger’s disease is usually based on clinical evidence. However, in cases where there is doubt about increased blood coagulability, additional tests are performed on the blood sample, which is performed free of charge for people suspected of having Buerger’s disease. Also, diagnostic imaging (angiography, CT angiography, Doppler ultrasound) is performed for patients with suspicion of femoral artery disease, the costs of which will be paid by the Buerger Association
treatment
The main part of the treatment for Buerger patients is complete cessation of tobacco use, which the Buerger Association helps patients with by holding smoking cessation sessions Also, the use of drugs that are usually used for pain relief by patients not only increases the desire to smoke, but the impurities in drugs such as lead, and arsenic are also harmful to blood vessels and interfere with the healing process of the disease. Buerger patients who use drugs are introduced to the withdrawal clinic, and for three months, expenses related to drug withdrawal are borne by the Buerger Association
Responsiveness
Rehabilitation in amputee patients includes providing a prosthesis (artificial leg) and helping to quit smoking. Because by continuing to smoke, the disease will progress, and the prosthesis will not be usable after some time
Screening
Since the early diagnosis of Buerger’s disease can prevent disability and amputation, one of the other missions of the Buerger’s Association is to measure the blood pressure ratio of legs and arms in young smokers. If the blood pressure of the leg is lower than that of the hand, it is in favor of atherosclerosis, and additional measures will be taken to definitively diagnose the disease
